About your profile folder

Analysis sometimes involves access to files stored on your computer, such as files containing data (e.g. CSV, XML, DBF, XLSX). These files must be accessible to PolyAnalyst Server for further analysis. If you are the sole user of PolyAnalyst and have installed it yourself on your own computer, then all files are accessible.

If PolyAnalyst Server is installed on another computer but the files are located on your computer, then the files may not be accessible. You will need to somehow transfer the files to the computer where the server is installed.

Every user of PolyAnalyst is assigned a personal folder. The folder is automatically created for you when your user profile is created. When you use PolyAnalyst’s various file browsing windows (for example, when selecting a file to import), you will see this personal folder.

The folder is named after your PolyAnalyst username. The folder name appears with leading and trailing @ symbols.

If your username is "username", then when you browse for files to import, you will see a folder named "@username@". If you are the sole user of PolyAnalyst and have installed it yourself on your own computer, your folder will be named @administrator@.

There are a number of file browsing windows within PolyAnalyst. For example, the CSV Source node provides a file browsing window to help you specify a CSV file to import when configuring the CSV Source node. In this browsing window, you will see your personal folder.

You can place files into this folder using PolyAnalyst Drive (right-click on the PolyAnalyst icon in the tray).

By default, personal profile folders are located underneath the UsersHome folder. The UsersHome folder is a configurable server property that can be changed using the Administrative Tool.

The physical folder name within the UsersHome folder will correspond to each profile’s global unique identifier, an internal profile property used to identify and distinguish users. If you want to browse or modify a specific profile’s files that are stored in PolyAnalyst by that profile, you will need to identify the ID of the root directory, which is specified in the Administrative Tool.

PolyAnalyst does not monitor changes to files within these folders. If you access the folder directly through Windows, and then delete files, you can cause data import nodes that expect these files to stop working.

Users can access their home folders from PolyAnalyst. To do so,

  • run PolyAnalyst as a tray application;

  • right-click on the server tray icon;

  • select the Open user home folder option and the respective folder from the submenu.
