holonym

Purpose

Finds documents that contain holonyms of the specified level of the argument term or terms.

X is a holonym of Y, if Ys are parts/members of X.

For instance, body is a holonym of leg, head, neck, arm, etc.

Syntax

holonym([level], term, …)

Arguments

The first optional argument level specifies the distance between the function’s argument and the function’s output in the semantic network (WordNet). The default value is 1.

The second and the following arguments are terms, for which holonyms are searched for.

Returned Value

Documents matching the query.

Examples

holonym(person) = holonym(1, person) matches word people that is the direct holonym of person, i.e. the distance between person and people is 1.

holonym(2, person) matches the words world, human being, because they are the direct holonyms of people that is the direct holonym of person, i.e. the distance between person and world or human being is 2.
