Renaming nodes

When choosing the name for a node, it is recommended to think of a name specific to its task.

For example, suppose you are using the Microsoft Excel source node, which imports a spreadsheet from a Microsoft Excel workbook file and saves the spreadsheet as a dataset within PolyAnalyst that can then be used by other nodes on the flowchart. Initially the node would be named "Microsoft Excel source." It is far better to name this node according to what it is doing specifically. For example, a better name would be "October 2012’s Sales Figures." When you look at the node on the flowchart, you will know at a glance which data is imported. You will also see the icon of the node as representing the Microsoft Excel source node, so you will know this data was originally stored in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

To rename a node on the flowchart:

  1. Select the node on the flowchart.

  2. Press F2 to make the name editable.

  3. Enter a new name. If you see the name turn red, it means the name is already taken by another node, and you should choose a different name.

  4. Press the Enter key or click somewhere else in the PolyAnalyst window.

To rename a node by editing its properties:

  1. Right click on the node and select Properties.

  2. In the properties window that appears switch to the General tab.

  3. Enter a new name.

  4. Click OK to save your changes.

You cannot change node names while the project is executing nodes (i.e. when the task list shows running tasks).
